What is Acting?
First off, Acting
is a career and people spend years training for this noble
profession. As an actor you learn how to portray different
characters and their thoughts, moods, and feelings. A professionally
trained actor studies voice, movement, improvisation, theater
history and many other subjects. Within acting there are
many types and styles of acting from acting in film
and acting in television to acting in theatre.
Most people ask, how
do I become an actor? First beginning in community and
school plays is a great way to start acting. Another great
way to get started is to act in your own short films. (DV
cameras are pretty affordable.) Try this out first and see
if it’s for you.
Of course if after this you’re serious
about becoming an actor or actress, try to apply for some
higher education. Great acting schools include Julliard,
NYU, UCLA, USC and Yale to name a few. If college is not
an option try to find a good professional acting school
with a teacher that you respect and can learn from.
